Watching people say about overt fascism "but that's illegal!" gives me such strong flashbacks to the billion times that disabled people talking about the patterns of discrimination we face have been met with similar shock and disbelief: surely "they" can't deny you jobs or an education or information in accessible formats, "that's illegal!"

The sooner you get past the shock, the sooner you can get to more useful reactions. Listening to your disabled comrades will make you harder to shock.

@bright_helpings also what is legal and what isn't can change very quickly when the state is fascist

one day discrimination is illegal, the other day
not discriminating is. And it doesn't matter if the laws are silly and unenforceable - the more laws like that they have, the more tools they have to just target anyone at will

like russia declared "international lgbt movement" an illegal organization. It doesn't matter that such an organization doesn't exist, it's a pretext to fine or jail someone who's openly queer in public

really they are mostly using it to target activists, journalists etc but yeah - as soon as they see you as a target that law is just a pretext and they have a lot of them to pick from

meanwhile ussr made not having a job illegal (social parasitism law). So - combine that with denying jobs to disabled people and you have a "great" way to just jail them. Ofc in theory that didn't include disabled people - provided you can prove to the state you're disabled, which - good luck
