@jeffjarvis - I had a great conversation with a (UK) Costco team member just the other day,(yes, while waiting for my Hotdog), they had nothing but praise for the company. Really sung their praises.

@LittleTownJane @jeffjarvis I've got health issues that don't allow for long distance traveling. Don't shop at Walmart either, due to a falling out I had with them around 15 years ago, even though there's one 4 miles away. The Target is 12 miles away. Last time I was in there was about 3 months ago when I needed a new coffee maker. Buy groceries at a regional chain (also around 4 miles away), also buy my "dry goods" (toilet tissue, paper towels, detergent, etc) at the grocery. The Target is a "regular" Target, no full grocery section. There's a "Sam's Club" close to the Target, but it's Walmart owned, so I don't go there either.

@albert65 @jeffjarvis my nearest ones are just under 100 miles and located in other states. But there's one going in within an hour of me that's expected to open later this year. I can't wait. Never been before, but I'll gladly check it out and rework my shopping habits to support them.

@jeffjarvis meanwhile in Australia they’ve backed a proposal to scrap penalty rates and overtime for workers which would see them not have to pay their staff extra for working on public holidays, weekends or when they work overtime.

I’m glad they raised their minimum wage but they’re not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, unchecked they will try and screw us all over, especially in places that are out of sight out of mind.

@jeffjarvis a good company by American standards perhaps. They are currently pushing to have penalty (overtime) rates abolished in Australia so they are just as shit as the rest as far as I’m concerned.

@jeffjarvis My wife and I were just discussing becoming Costco members again. Fuck Target.

@johne @jeffjarvis Also Costco membership is universal. Have used our NZ Costco membership in Canada and USA.

The two nearest to be are awkward to get to, either in a big outdoor mall with terrible traffic or tucked in around the corner from one of the largest hospitals in my state and one of the largest community colleges in the state, also with terrible traffic.
