800 doctors submitted a letter of support for RFK Jr’s HHS secretary nomination.

It turns out most signatories weren’t real doctors, or were doctors who had their licenses revoked or suspended.

Using fake experts to create an illusion of credibility is a classic anti-vax tactic.

Some doctors who signed letter in support of RFK Jr. had licenses revoked.

A letter submitted to the U.S. Senate that states it was sent by physicians in support of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination as secretary of Health and Human Services includes the names of doctors who have had their licenses revoked, suspended or faced other discipline. The Associated Press has also found that many of the nearly 800 signers of the letter are not doctors. Among those who signed it were a self-described journalist, a certified public accountant, a firefighter/paramedic, a certified health coach and someone who said they had a bachelor’s degree “with an emphasis on Jungian Psychology.”

@luckytran I just read about this and was going to post it! Citation here:

Support letter for RFK Jr’s confirmation includes signatures of doctors with suspended or revoked licenses

Meant to lend credibility to his nomination to head HHS, the letter is signed by some doctors disciplined for not following Covid guidelines

@luckytran
Same techniques used by "scientists" signing a screed that climate change wasn't real. As I recall, many worked in pest control & other occupations extremely tangential to doing actual research.
@Nazani @luckytran The Oregon Petition.
Some of the signatories were dead, some were Spice Girls
@martinvermeer @luckytran
Oh. I had forgotten that one!
@martinvermeer @Nazani @luckytran
some people on the list were surprised to find they were on it and asked to be removed!
@luckytran same shit they did when Covid hit.
My sister send me a YouTube featuring one former optometrist as an expert! He as a former optometrist bc he was an a-hole & had his license taken away.
The rest of the panel were just as stupid.
@RiaResists @luckytran That's like trusting a baker on your car repairs...
@luckytran Yeah it was filled with folks like Dr. Wiley, Dr. Robotnik, Dr. Who, Dr. Acula, Dr. Doolittle etc...
@luckytran It is also most likely unlawful. It meets the definition of fraud in many states, and Trump can't pardon them from a state charge.

@luckytran The Friendly Atheist had a great article on a fake pediatric medical association that tries to confuse itself with the American Academy of Pediatricians. It was found out thru an unsecure Google Doc that they had a whopping 700 members—compared to the 60K+ members of the AAP.

https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/a-sham-medical-group-put-out-an-anti

A sham medical group put out an anti-trans statement. Conservatives took the bait.

The American College of Pediatricians is an ideological hate group, not a science-based professional organization

Friendly Atheist
@luckytran if this was submitted by RFK Jr it should be automatically disqualifying
@luckytran at the end of the day, they don't care. I predict without any merit whatsoever that they will soon dispose of what they consider to be the decorum of legal process, and push through whatever they like however they like. Just because they can, and nobody is organised enough to stop them.

"800 médicos enviaron una carta de apoyo a la nominación de RFK Jr. como secretario del HHS.

Resulta que la mayoría de los firmantes no eran médicos reales, o eran médicos a quienes se les había revocado o suspendido la licencia.

Usar expertos falsos para crear una ilusión de credibilidad es una táctica clásica contra las vacunas."

@luckytran

@luckytran

I feel like you needed suspicious-quotes around that reference to doctors.
@luckytran Typical Republican subterfuge
@luckytran sadly they'll then claim he was endorsed, look, by all these Doctors. No, don't look too close at the names. yep, good to go, done. Next!
@luckytran Y decir cualquier cosa sin fundamentos es clásico de los obedientes de la TV.
@luckytran they do a completely different kind of ‘doctoring’.
@luckytran Doctors of Divinity don’t count.
