It looks like KDE is also off X/Twitter. That may be old news, though.
It's amazing how one AI can accuse the other AI of not respecting copyright laws or terms of use rules while at the same time doing exactly what it's accusing of the other. It's like they can think just like human beings. How did they train it for jealousy and hypocrisy?!

@thelinuxexperiment I think your take on Valve needing to release a deck 2 immediately is extremely backwards.

They shouldn't try to start a handheld war with Nintendo. Let the Nintendo release shake out, support other players with steam os in the meantime expanding into already owned devices to prop numbers (not that this really matters given how valve is structured) and then drop a deck 2 mid hardware cycle with some of the optimisations that'll come from Sonys ps6 work etc. Possibly alongside Deckard as a device that can drive that and HL3.

People buying Switches will not reduce the relevance of Steam OS or the deck other than to temporarily reduce numbers during the release window. People buy switches for a small handful of games. They buy decks for their huge existing library.

Thank you Debian for migrating off that rat’s nest.

Salut Nick, and a big thank you upfront for your linux news updates which make tedious technobabble both accessible and enjoyable (you have your charms).

please could do something on AV specific desktops in the future (AVLinux, UbuntuStudio, etc)?

as you do AV on linux constantly, you are well placed to advise newbies to the field as to where to start.

i want to make music on linux (midi etc) but find the whole pipewire/pulse/alsa/jack mess a total shitemare.

merci bien!

Hi Nick... you adk in this video "ehy use facebook in 2025?" And you link yourself to share this video on facebook... but no hint to peertube or fediverse... 🤔🤔🤔
3:10 Where does the $24,000 number come from? That is a disgusting monthly price. For 11 dedicated servers, storage, electricity, and internet? A 1Gb plan is capable of providing 324TB (2,592Tb)/month. That satisfies the internet connection cost at under $200/mo. Per apartments.com, avg. national price for a studio apt. is $1,555, but freedesktop.org already has headquarters. Perhaps I am mistaken on how much server equipment costs, but that amount is like a **5-year 12.46% loan at $1,070,000 loan**. And after those 5 years, freedesktop.org would at least own the hardware. I find it unlikely that they use over a million dollars of server equipment. I also assume they'd get a better rate than 12.46%, which is the average personal loan rate according to bankrate.com.
