What are your recommendations for books on Swiss Style / modernist graphic design history? Concise, not ultra academic style preferred.
@thierryblancpain Richard Hollis’ book is still probably the best overview of the early and high period of Swiss graphic design. If you want something that discusses Swiss design within a broader modernist history, _Die Neue Grafik Design_ is a good basic text.
@TiroTypeworks ha was nearly going to say that Hollis’ is probably the only one that I have that will get mentioned
@thierryblancpain If you want to understand Swiss design from the inside, Josef Müller-Brockmann’s _Grid systems_ is great.
@TiroTypeworks oh I read that before going to design school 🫣 I guess I’m missing some of the in-depth discussion of how these designers understood themselves in that time, but haven’t touched the Hollis books since first reading it so might well be that a re-read is going to uncover that.
