Approvingly citing Musk/X and Zuck/Meta, Substack reiterates its commitment to support Nazis, antisemites, anti-vaxxers, transphobes, and homophobes in spreading disinformation & hate under the guise of “free speech”. https://read.substack.com/p/the-fight-for-free-speech-in-2025
The fight for free speech in 2025 and beyond

On Substack’s ongoing commitment to freedom of the press

Substack Reads

@kottke genuinely curious why this is the “guise” of free speech rather than just actual free speech. You may not agree with the things they are allowing to be posted (I don't either), but isn’t that exactly what free speech is protecting?

And how do you feel about open platforms like Mastodon, where Nazi’s, antisemites, anti-vaxxers, transphobes, and homophobes are also free to post?

@zero101 @kottke It’s the difference between *permitting* anything to be said (Mastodon), and *amplifying* speech that fits your particular agenda and biases (either via human curation or algorithmically).

@richtf @kottke That is a fair distinction.

Is there any evidence of Substack amplifying that content?
