There legitimate use cases for manufacturers collecting this data, (with owner permission).

Stolen vehicle recovery and vehicle maintenance telemetry (during warranty period( are features some customers appreciate, but more often, they are features customers either don’t have access to themselves, or are completely ignorant of.
Sales and Service staff need to make sure customers are aware.
