98% of Costco shareholders voted against anti-DEI measures—guess they’re not buying the bulk-sized nonsense the other 2% are selling.
@godpod I wish I had a Costco near me!
@godpod I signed up for a membership this week, that's my $65 contribution to their DEI fund.

@technicat @godpod Target is dropping DEI.

I need to convince my family to switch to Costco at this point.

@ShrikeTron @godpod Same here, I'm a longtime target shopper, got the redcard, but lines need to be drawn.
@godpod
Never expected the big box store from Idiocracy to become a retailer good person.
@godpod I can already see tomorrow’s headlines:
“Costco drops DEI measures after split vote.”
@godpod cancelled Sam’s membership told them why, going to Costco.
@godpod That is good news
But Costco is not for everyone. They don't sell things the way Target does. They sell low quality staples in bulk. So at this point I am left without a major chain to shop from because nearly all of them are bad in some way. Never was a Walmart person. Have been boycotting Home Depot since the early 2000s. Now dropping Walmart. In general I have had to decide on who is less bad, because they are all problematic.

@georgelenzer

They don't sell low quality items.

Most of their stuff is name brand, a lot are the same or just bigger version of what you get at any grocery store, just in 2 or 3 jars, or a case of cans: instead of one small Heinz ketchup, you get two large bottles. My Maya Ruta coffee comes in 4.4 and 5 lb bags. I have a cases of Bush's beans, Barilla pasta, even Little Italy pasta sauce, all from Costco.

@georgelenzer

The produce is almost always very fresh and good, the cheese is priced very well for the quality, the meats and seafood are great and not overpriced. I've gotten pork belly, ribeyes, roasts, and all were fantastic.

I vacuum seal and freeze a lot, as well.

@georgelenzer

Just looking at snacks, it's all name brand. Lots of individual packs if that's your thing.

@ManiacalV Ahh... That is kind of what I meant. I tend to consider most of the name brands as lower quality compared to either home made or fresh. Most of what we use target for is stuff like plates, clothes (more like tee shirts, socks, underwear, sweats), birthday and holiday cards, kitchen appliances, gardening stuff. And we never buy in bulk. Always just what we need, when we need it. We generally try to avoid most extra processes foods. But I was not aware they actually have produce...
@ManiacalV ...There are also staples of our diet that I am not sure they carry. Zevia soda, Sweetleaf Stevia powder and drops, whole wheat pastry flour, spelt flour, decent whole wheat pasta (which has become really hard to find anywhere). Those are thinga we either have to order online, or pick up at local grocery stores with specialty items. They might be specialty to other, but for us they're essentials.
@georgelenzer @ManiacalV I have the same problem. I buy some things at Costco, but because of my sensitivities to sugar, soy, and dairy, I have to get some items at Natural Grocers, which isn't a bad place to shop. And my little two-person household can't handle the larger quantities of a lot of Costco products.

@georgelenzer @ManiacalV They even make meals for people who have busy lives and they are pretty decent. Honestly, the clothes are good too. I bought leggings there and haven't found another that lasts as long or is as soft and form fitting. They surprise you in that store. I wish they weren't 40 minutes away from me but it's worth the drive every time.

I also just cut meats up into smaller portions, put them in a savers bag, and freeze them that way instead of in the original package as bulk.

@Sddobson @georgelenzer

My jacket, work pants, and a lot of clothes are from there. All kinds of awesome snacks. Currently I have cured, individually packaged Quail Eggs. :D

@ManiacalV That's amazing. I've never had quail eggs before? Do they really taste that much different than hen eggs?

@Sddobson For these? The salt cured taste like hard boiled hen eggs, the whites are chewy like pickled eggs but there's so little white that the creamy yolk comes through.

The darker ones are stewed and have a stronger soy sauce flavor.

@ManiacalV Mmm, those sound good. I'll go look for those when I'm at Costco again, granted they have them.
@Sddobson The best thing they have right now are the Churro Bites. I buy 3 tubs at a time, one for me, one for for different family households to share.

@Sddobson

We now have a family joke because my brother in law works at the same library so I brought one down for him and my sister and their kids, my niece and her family, and my mom.

I came down to his office for something days later and it was still on his desk, half eaten. I told my sis and we laughed and now I always tell her when I'm delivering them.

@ManiacalV I don't think my eyes got wide enough to express the wonder looking at those give me. You're gonna make me make a run tomorrow, haha, but I can't. I have to make an hour run (there) to a certain Petco to get my cats' prescription food. My sweet tooth is gonna be my downfall, haha.

@Sddobson

These are incredible as well. Just bought 3 bags!

@ManiacalV I'm sorry to say, I don't like peanuts. I don't know if it's the flavor or how they make my teeth feel. I can only eat peanut butter when I crave reese's, haha. Cashews and almonds though are good. They don't make my teeth feel weird, haha. I tried these coffee and chocolate cashews and hazelnuts that were so good. I can't remember where I got them from.

Have you tried their premade poke bowls meals? The tuna one is amazing. I whip up a soy sauce base sauce to go on top, so good.
.

@Sddobson Not yet, but now I need to check for those!
@ManiacalV They have tuna, shrimp, and another one. I haven't tried the other two. I have to mentally prepare myself, haha. They look like they have a mayo based sauce on them so I'm working on convincing myself it's not. It's not working so far.
@Sddobson They probably use Kewpie, which I love. Japanese mayo that uses only yolk and rice+cider vinegar instead of white vinegar. Tastes almost like egg salad.
@ManiacalV To be honest, I'm scared to try it. Like, any white based cream condiments. Trauma related. Of course, I can usually add things when I have people like my kids make something with it but they don't say what exactly. As long as they don't do what my ex did and lie about it completely so I'm off guard but instead just say, try this, it's really good. You might like this. My kids love to cook and are good at it so I usually trust them, haha.

@godpod that's pretty funny

I expect this reply will die on the cross post 👀
