it feels like we still value fame over all else as a proxy for success, even when it becomes increasingly clear that fame is a very weak indicator of actual skill or usefulness in a chosen profession

i mean i strongly suspect my own opinions on this are influenced by my experience on social media and the internet more broadly, where fame is relatively easy to come across as long as you're willing to make certain compromises, so i wonder if this will start to shift
