I have landed on 3 Body Problem as my long slow drama to nap through today.
But I am three episodes in, and while my nerd brain loves a puzzle (hello murder mysteries!) I don't need another bleak plotline where I am told how shitty humanity can be (I've got the news for that).
So I need a missive from those that have gone before: am I gonna enjoy the redemption of humanity, or should I find something else to watch?

☝️ I just want to thank everybody (especially as my ability to word for the day tanks).
There's a huge diversity of opinion, and praise for the book, but amid all that folks are not just discussing whether it's good or not, but whether it's good for *me* to watch it right now.

Fekkin culture of kindness and caring in these intertubes. Ya'll are awesome.

(will continue to read and ⭐boop replies)

@vlrny honestly read the book instead, the show made a dog’s dinner of it. And there is an upcoming episode with some bleak visceral visuals.
@allancavanagh alright, sold (or unsold to be more specific).
I stopped Kaos halfway through for the same thing. I just don't have the stomach for bleak inhumanity in my diversion anymore.
@vlrny oh I found that show irritating from the get-go. Got 15 mins in? Watching Silo at the moment, bleak enough but in a hierarchal power structures are terrible, people are ok sort of way.
3BP book is actually rather uplifting. There’s one character who is liberated in his imagination because he’s self-proclaimed “stupid” compared to the scientists, and has some laugh out loud lines.
@allancavanagh huzzah for the bits of humour in dark stories.
I need less dystopia in my escapism. There's not much out there, I hope we start to build more stories where we have interesting problems other than the world has gone to shit.
There are so many other wonderful mysteries and puzzles and even dramatic battles to explore.
And utter bloody silliness, also very valuable. I am happy to ride some weird thought trains.
@vlrny sounds like you need…
@vlrny read back what you wrote, it’s like you literally pitched Star Trek! 😄
@allancavanagh right!?! Utopian problems are cool too.
@vlrny Which version are you watching? The US produced one was … OK. Not great, but not bleak. I didn’t see the Chinese produced one.
@lluad interesting question, I am watching it on Netflix Canada.
Not great but not bleak sounds like something I could nap through though. 🤔
@vlrny Yeah, pretty sure that’s the US version. The Chinese version was on … Amazon Prime?
@lluad interesting! Weird. The Chinese version was in Mandarin and subtitled/dubbed for English I suppose? Was the plot line s lik different as well?
@vlrny I haven't seen the American version, the Chinese one is great but as bleak as it can get. Even if the American is watered down, it's not the show you're looking for right now, I bet.
@enriquericos not the droid I am looking for 👍

@vlrny I was reading the other replies and yes, I'd stay away.

I nap to fiction podcasts, works for me.

@vlrny You know, I watched it some time ago, I remember the basic idea of it, but really can't remember how things turned out...lol My mind often doesn't focus on plot all that much- I remember characters , ideas and settings more...lol
