AOC: "We stand here just two days after President [sic] #Trump gave unconditional pardons to violenct criminals who attacked the Capitol, and these are the people who want you to believe they're 'keeping criminals off the streets.'"
@GottaLaff
You just have to understand they see "criminal" as something you are, not something you do. Poor minorities are born "criminals" regardless of whether they ever do something illegal. Likewise, White dudes aren't "criminals" regardless of how many crimes they commit. Similarly, poor brown people are "illegal immigrants" even if their families have been citizens for generations, while White immigrants, like Elon Musk, are fine even if they didn't follow the rules when they came here.
@VATVSLPR Yes, it all depends on what the definition of "is" is... Sigh.
@VATVSLPR @GottaLaff Exactly. @pluralistic does an excellent job laying out how the "buffers of space, time, and class" are used to build power here: https://pluralistic.net/2025/01/06/how-the-sausage-gets-made/

@VATVSLPR
Yeah, something like that.

Conservatives and rights wing extremes like their social order stable.

And that includes the white dudes on top of the pyramid, even if of course there are different levels of white dudes, poor dudes and rich dudes, but all of them should them the opportunity to own their private brownie.

@VATVSLPR @GottaLaff

I think the answer is pretty much "Racism" right?

@Sablebadger @GottaLaff
The point I'm addressing is how racism works, not that racism exists and is important. Racists define words differently, and you won't understand what they're saying if you assume they're using the same definitions you are. That's how they can complain about "criminals" while voting for Trump and cheering when he lets January 6th rioters go, or say we need to deport "illegal immigrants" while ignoring how Elon Musk and Melania Trump got here.
@VATVSLPR @GottaLaff I agree. white boys doing bad things are "misunderstood" or "troubled" where a black boy doing things is a "thug".

@VATVSLPR @GottaLaff
thank you, that explains a lot.

I have been trying to understand how it is that their heads dont explode from cognitive dissonance.

It’s internally consistent is how @GottaLaff @VATVSLPR @mral

@BenAveling @GottaLaff @VATVSLPR
one would think that their internal, make-believe, world would collide with the real world at some point.

Maybe that is why controlling the media, and suppressing the vote is so important.

@mral @BenAveling @GottaLaff
The question is what that collision would look like. For some things, like climate change, they can just refuse to connect the dots and treat each climate-influenced disaster as a one-off. For others, like bigotry, the results of their actions create "facts" they can use to continue justifying their beliefs. For example, their racism puts lots of minorities in the justice system, which they can use as "proof" that minorities are a bunch of criminals.
