@PGBeattie @Fife4Europe interesting thought. However, I think there would be problems regarding international law in that I don't believe you are able to make someone stateless. I'm not sure though whether someone who would most likely be in a position to obtain statehood elsewhere due to their financial position (the fact they move abroad to avoid tax suggests they'd be pretty comfortably off) might ease that issue.

@capnthommo @PGBeattie @Fife4Europe Many countries offer special residence visas for the rich, but not citizenship without a period of residency. where I live, France, requires 5 years of residency before applying for citizenship and typically 5 more years for the process to complete.

In addition the UK charges a fee to renounce citizenship (a nice little earner)
