TikTok shut itself down as part of a pro-Trump propaganda campaign.

The likelihood of a quid-pro-quo with Trump is extremely high. Using TikTok will mean being propagandized with pro-Trump messages over the next four years.

You are not immune to propaganda!

@LilahTovMoon funniest thing: Trump didn't do shit. He isn't even president yet.
@JorisMeys i would assume this is part of a backdoor deal. tbh. @LilahTovMoon was very right this is part of a quid pro quo between a multi-billion dollar platform and a billionaire president
@walladiethylamide @LilahTovMoon you could also see it as a good joke by the Chinese, very willing to aid the US in destroying its own society. They can cash out, knowing Musk will have a ball ruining shit further.

@JorisMeys the united states is a joke already? our healthcare is gated behind the whims of billionaires and trillionaires, our food is produced in horrific and unsanitary ways, we have some of the worst workers protections and consumer protections compared to other countries "like us", we still occupy stolen land that violates multiple treaties made with native nations, and we have some of the least free press in the world.

what kinda racist, sinophobic shit are you on?

@LilahTovMoon

@walladiethylamide @LilahTovMoon it's called sarcasm, the European kind. Good stuff. A bit strong for some people's taste though.

@walladiethylamide @LilahTovMoon ps: pretending that the chinese regime is some benevolent soft entity, is an insult to chinese people.

Also: the direct goal of BRIC is to replace the dollar with another global reserve currency. Anything that helps... 😎

@JorisMeys i pray you have no systemic power outside of being a white man @LilahTovMoon
@walladiethylamide @LilahTovMoon nope. I don't. Sadly I was born like this, please do forgive me for being white. And male on top of that, the horror.
@walladiethylamide also do check my profile with all the racist stuff and do not hesitate to block and report me. Time for bed for me, have a splendid day yourself.

@JorisMeys joking about china being an evil country while white, european nations are doing arguably worse shit than china is racism. like you don't need to invoke the "evil chinese commies" when you're talking about the united states of genocide.

just because you post for other people means nothing if this is how you're going to show your whole ass. racist sarcasm that furthers western sinophobic propaganda is still racist. like idk dude.

if you're fine with saying the same shit that some racist would, then fine. go off. but you're the one choosing to use language like racists and will likely get treated as such by other racialized people when you're acting like this.

you're an instructor, you do have systemic power. that you don't recognize that, on top of how you think casual racism is fine, truly makes me worry for your students.

i don't block ppl unless they do truly egregious shit. if you're willing to talk, so am i. i will get upset because racism has horrific consequences, no matter how "casual".

i don't want you to go into other interactions in the future and not have some idea that you may be causing harm.

racialized people don't deserve to deal with european racism constantly regardless of how normalized it is.

@walladiethylamide if I say Israel is committing genocide, is that racist? If I say Russia is out to destroy as much of the European economy as they can to reinstate the big Russian empire, is that racist?

Tiktok doesn't need the US, they could just put a message "this service is not available in your country" and put their US servers overseas. They didn't, and made this circus abt their "savior" Trump instead. Ask yourself why.

@walladiethylamide and I absolutely agree that various European countries are screwing up in different ways. It's an ugly world out there. All these things can be true at the same time. That doesn't negate that the Chinese regime-like the US, Russi,...- is doing their best to manipulate public opinion at home and abroad, and really want to take over economic leadership from the US. Whether that is "bad" depends on where you live I guess?
@JorisMeys and the us isnt swaying public opinion at home and abroad? the us isnt trying to be the global economic leader? china is allegedly trying to build global communism through diplomacy and trade. the us is trying to build global capitalism through imperialism and genocide. i'm unsure why one of these governments is a regime to you and the other is under threat from destabilization form outside forces.
@walladiethylamide yes, they are. And my honest opinion? Trump wanted to ban tiktok andvpose tariffs becauce "china bad hur hur". Musk did the 1 thing he's good in: recognize a superior product. The algo of tiktok is way better than Meta's or his. And like Tesla, SpaceX and everything else, he's using every dirty trick to grab it. And China is more than happy to let him bcs it's good for them geopolitically.
@JorisMeys the us is trying to own tiktok with the intent of controlling the flow of information. multiple us representatives from both major parties have repeatedly stated that they need to let tiktok be owned by an american company because the ccp is "making the youth anti-semitic (pro-palestine) and are trying to destabilize our country". the us had large scale anti-imperialist sentiment rise because tiktok allowed for more leftists and anti-imperialist to maintain a platform and far reach compared to meta, who would limit instagram activity of leftist accounts but allow fascists to say whatever they wanted unhindered.
@walladiethylamide you pretend that all US actors had the same reasoning and also that China is some poor developing country "trying to figure it out" (which is arguably pretty racist in fact, ironically). Again, Musk wanting the algo, ppl want to control information flow, ppl being scared of China and trying on tiktok what China tried on facebook, Google, Apple,... and China using the tiktok situation to advance their own interest by disturbing public op in the US do not exclude eachother.
@JorisMeys my point is that china isnt trying to be a global terrorist org like the us gov. china is actually doing diplomacy amd trade like i said earlier

@walladiethylamide uhu. And in that trade they use a lot of tactics, including influencing public opinion at home and abroad. When presented with an opportunity like the whole tiktok theatre, they make good use of it.

That's what I wrote. Don't know what you read, but obviously not what I wrote.

Also note I've not once defended global policies of the US. Haven't in a long time, don't plan on starting to do that any time soon. Just sayin...

@JorisMeys like the problem is western empires spreading racism and killing people and your concern is "oh no the chinese want to control tiktok to topple the us". seriously concerning that you have this much fear of chinese activity and think america needs protection.
