I take a hardline stance on AI "art," because I am a Pagan.

Paganism has only one core belief, and that is reverence for the Earth. It is now common knowledge that the AI bubble is causing huge energy expenditures that will worsen the climate crisis, which I take very, very personally. That's my mother that you're hurting.

So, just know that if you post AI art, I have you muted.
If you post AI art trying to pass it off as real, that's a block from me.

@Cat_LeFey glad I only tried it. twice. and neither time was what apparently I wanted it to be. my days of being able to actually draw are done. so thought it would of been a way I could get the pictures out of my head but. apparently no dice. so tried AI art. AI art didn't like me. but do you hold a hard view on people who use AI to help with other things? blind image describing? closed captions for movies for those who can't hear?

@lunar_fang @Cat_LeFey accessibility is where the question becomes really hard to answer.

There are AI-based image describing bots that lazy people on Fedi use. This is still to be condemned.

Besides, the output is really bad and misrepresenting the image. As such, I’d say that while blind people get a description from it, it’s oftentimes more misleading than helpful, so I’ll argue against their use even for these cases, but will still allow people who really need such to use them.

@mirabilos @Cat_LeFey at the moment when we don't have sighted help it's all we've got. don't hold that against us. it also helps with cooking directions and what not. no one was home one day I was hungry, didn't know how to cook what ever I took out of the freezer took a pic of it and the AI app I used told me what it was and how to cook it. and it was actually what it said it was. I get why people villanize AI. even though I argue it's a tool. don't villanize the program. villanize those who haven't learned to do what they need to do with AI in an eco friendly way. 10 years from now. it won't be near as bad. but we can say the same with everything. oil, coal, trees, water, there wern't always eco friendly ways to get what we need from mother earth. and now there are.

@lunar_fang @Cat_LeFey no, it really won’t get better re. resource usage.

And it’s a spectacularily bad tool: it could also have told you something entirely different than was written on the package, with confidence.

Traditional (pre-AI) optical recognition won’t, it’d say it couldn’t recognise the words or something. With much much less planet burning, at that.

@Cat_LeFey @lunar_fang remember the people who put glue into their food because Google told them so.

@mirabilos @Cat_LeFey

ok. so what was I supposed to do. wait around for a sighted person to come home when ever that would be. just so they could read the directions to me? I'm sorry but. Ai did what i needed it to do and it did it right. I'm tired of people villafying something that does help people out who really need it. you and I I think are going to have to just agree to disagree. if something lets me be even a little more indipendant then I'll use it. I shouldn't have to rely on hoping a sighted person can come home soon and help me cook my lunch! I get that people think AI is harming the earth and I can agree. but at the same time. I need to use it. pagan I am. yes. but that doesn't mean I can't use what I need to to help myself.

@Cat_LeFey @lunar_fang take the risk. If it tells you it’s food and it isn’t, SOL. As I said, the a11y use case is very hard to draw lines for.

Try to get a nōn-AI image recogniser, if they still exist.

@mirabilos @Cat_LeFey

AI has given me better ocr then typical ocr. I'm sorry that's just how it has to be.
better image description better everything. I would rather the image is a brown dog verses the image is a dog. for example.
