@DamonCrowley if the clock face had 24 hours on it, so that the hour hand made the circle once per day, a clock would be an reasonably accurate model of earth's rotation. But no.

@DamonCrowley Thai language makes more sense in this regard. They start counting at 6am, not midnight, & the day is broken into four 6 hour periods. 6am-noon, noon-6pm, 6pm-midnight, midnight-6am β€” which, because Thailand is close to the equator, every day is divided pretty evenly into 12 hour periods of day and night starting at 6am & ending at 6pm. They kinda screw up this simplicity with some linguistic complications, but the underlying logic is actually better than what we use in the West.
