BONUS READING

By the way, this Cheryan & Markus (2022) paper I shared in a post earlier today links to another fun read: Increasing Female Participation in Computing: The Harvey Mudd College Story --> https://www.cs.unm.edu/~learningcomputing/readings/13_klawe.pdf

And this is a good piece to go deeper --> https://dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1145/3502870.3506568

My earlier post:

As Klawe wrote: "The new CS courses are not more expensive or challenging to teach than our previous introductory course. Eliminating the “macho” effect requires a modest amount of extra time from instructors and has a huge payoff"

My question is and remains, not "why don't women major in CS," it is....why hasn't Computer Science fixed itself 🤷‍♀️

@grimalkina as a Mudd alumna from the pre-Klawe era i am such a fangirl
@thatandromeda oh hey, fellow Mudd alum on the fediverse 👋

@grimalkina after just watching a video on how US Steel went from being the largest steel manufacturer in the world to basically killing itself (which isn’t special, more just one big example of many) I’m mostly of the opinion that *any* org or field fixing itself rather than collapsing is outlier behavior.

Which is kinda depressing, tbh.

@grimalkina oh huh! I've used Harvey-Mudd resources to learn some things before, and I'm a big fan.
