After close consideration we have come to the decision to block Threads.net instance wide on all related instances

(mstdn.social, masto.ai, mastodon.coffee, pixey.org, gram.social)

The new Meta policy goes against much we stand for and we will not allow to let it spill over to the Fediverse

I just checked the numbers and it seems Threads is the biggest 'loser' here

On all instances combined we lose just under 100 followers spread across all instances

Threads will lose over 13K total

I understand it's rough to lose accounts you follow from Threads but unfortunately it is not worth the risk

Hopefully people on Threads will realize the true origin of the company running their platform and will make the decision to join us here in the Fediverse ❤️

I really really tried making this work but I cannot go any further

Mark Zuckerberg is a person I cannot and will not with with in any way. Sorry not sorry

Some people may wonder why it's now and not before and I would like to try and explain as good as I can

We are a relative large instance in the Fediverse so that comes with a lot of responsibility in making decisions. One of our main goals is safety but we also want to be open and connective until a certain point

Threads promised to be different and we always kept it with a grain of salt but did let the people decide if they wanted to block or not

The new policy is just far over the fine line

@stux I’m new here, and I found it because I was trying to get away from anything connected to Meta or Musk., especially after Zuck’s recent announcement.
However, I don’t know what the Fediverse is - could you explain in language a non-techy can understand? 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Venta @stux

"Federated" social media means people who have accounts on different social media services, and using different apps, can follow and interact with each other. I'm on Mastodon, but through my Mastodon app I can follow and interact with people on smaller social media sites like Friendica and Pixelfed, because Mastodon and Friendica and Pixelfed are all "federated." People using those services can all talk to each other because we're all in the "Fediverse."

@Venta @stux

Threads is KINDA part of the Fediverse. Mastodon users can follow (and reply to) Threads users, but so far they can't reply back to us, because Threads doesn't allow that (though they say they eventually will.)

But after Meta announced this new "no fact checking" policy a lot of admins are blocking Threads. So some Mastodon users will still be able to follow Threads users, but others won't, because their admin has blocked it.

@Venta @stux

Threads was only partially "federated" to begin with, and now many are "defederating" from it.

By the way, you can also follow and interact with Bluesky users from Mastodon, but through a "bridge." In practice that means it only works if you both opt in. More info here...

Bridgy Fed

Bridgy Fed is a bridge between decentralized social networks like the fediverse, Bluesky, and web sites and blogs.

@Venta @stux

My personal opinion is that "walled gardens" (social media services where you can only talk to other users of the same service) are a waste of the internet's potential.

That's why I'm here, and also why I do follow Threads and Bluesky users (on my other Mastodon account - my admin for this account has blocked them!)

But I definitely get why some people just want nothing to do with Mark Zuckerberg at all.
