At the local Bavarian place for schnitzel and bratwurst. And what should come on the radio but After the Fire's "Der Kommissar"? The original German version, of course, not the English one.

Of course, it was in the middle of a shit-ton of early-'80s music, like the Cars, Men at Work, and Devo, so it wasn't really a *deliberate* language-match. It just tickled my fancy, that's all.

@kagan Lang lebe die Neue Deutsche Welle!

Nena‘s “99 Luftballons” and Falco’s “Der Kommissar” are two songs I hear here in the U.S. in their original German version every now and then.

I had to consult Wikipedia: After the Fire did the English cover version (which I didn’t know). The original version is by the Austrian artist Falco, who is probably best know in the U.S. for “Rock Me Amadeus”.

Enjoy your Schnitzel and/or Bratwurst! I hope they have Bavarian beer, too.

@sabineemden Oops, I need to get that into my head. I keep thinking that After the Fire wrote it in German, recorded that, and then did the English version of their own song.

No, Kagan, remember: they covered (and simultaneously translated) Falco. Got it. Thank you.

I also remember Falco for "Vienna Calling".

I don't like beer much, so I haven't even really looked at their beer list. I assume they must have some Bavarian beer, though. I did enjoy both schnitzel and bratwurst, danke.

@kagan I didn’t like beer until I moved to Bavaria. Try a Bavarian Helles🍺. It’s less bitter than other beers. I also like Radler.
@sabineemden Okay, I'll look for those the next time I go there. Thanks!
