After close consideration we have come to the decision to block Threads.net instance wide on all related instances

(mstdn.social, masto.ai, mastodon.coffee, pixey.org, gram.social)

The new Meta policy goes against much we stand for and we will not allow to let it spill over to the Fediverse

I just checked the numbers and it seems Threads is the biggest 'loser' here

On all instances combined we lose just under 100 followers spread across all instances

Threads will lose over 13K total

I understand it's rough to lose accounts you follow from Threads but unfortunately it is not worth the risk

Hopefully people on Threads will realize the true origin of the company running their platform and will make the decision to join us here in the Fediverse ❤️

I really really tried making this work but I cannot go any further

Mark Zuckerberg is a person I cannot and will not with with in any way. Sorry not sorry

@stux indeed, although I expect anyone on threads unhappy with the choices will instead move to bluesky. 🤷‍♂️
The majority remaining just won't care.

@ivor @stux

My spouse and her groups are all moving to Bsky. Couldn't get them to understand Mastodon or the fediverse and everyone they know jumped to bluesky because it seemed more familiar and most people they already knew were on it. There doesn't seem to be an equivalent to the "marketplace" there though, one of the main things they use it for.

@cainmark @ivor From one centralized platform to the next! What could go wrong

@stux @ivor

*sigh*

I tried, I really did. Same problem with Linux and LibreOffice. So much better in so many ways, but so many still choosing ad bloated or ridiculously expensive Operating Systems. No one listens until finally they get it somehow with their own experience.

@cainmark @stux @ivor if people choose to pay for lower quality despite information being shared then they need to live with the consequences.
I've been using Linux as my only operating system since 1998 and Staroffice -> OpenOffice -> LibreOffice all that time.
I'm the one who has saved thousands.
@stux @cainmark @ivor bluesky is (technically) decentralised? Anyone can set up a bluesky server, just like on activity pub.

@Haikyoneko @cainmark @ivor Well yes and no 😉

If you setup a PDS you still rely on a BIG part of the Bsky services for it to even work

Not by a loooong shot is it something standalone like Mastodon for example

@Haikyoneko @cainmark @ivor Here's a nice sum up from many of them: https://status.bsky.app/

Not all but a lot, that are needed for your self-hosted "server" to even work

Bluesky

@stux @cainmark @ivor that's interesting, thanks!
@Haikyoneko @stux @cainmark @ivor If you're interested in a detailed evaluation on how decentralized or not BlueSky is, Christine has done one: https://social.coop/@cwebber/113527462572885698

How Decentralized Is Bluesky Really? https://dustycloud.org/blog/how-decentralized-is-bluesky/ A technical deep-dive, since people have been asking me for my thoughts. I'll expand a bit on some of the key points here in a thread. 🧵

@gunchleoc @stux @cainmark @ivor always interested in learning something new. 👍
@Haikyoneko @gunchleoc @stux @cainmark @ivor It is quite seriously a fascinating topic. Bluesky is more centralized in a lot of ways but less in others (composable moderation, feeds, starter packs, probably something else I'm forgetting right now).
@stux @cainmark @ivor We can federate with them on bsky if they activate the bridge, and wait around for bsky to fuck up so bad they move here. In the long game we always win. Because capitalism always enshittifies things. It can't stop itself.
