The right wing won't rest until it has wiped out independent information providers, and the extremists at the Heritage Foundation are planning to start doxxing Wikipedia contributors.

Big Journalism doesn't seem to realize what is at stake here, or care if it does understand. As usual...

Scoop: Heritage Foundation plans to ‘identify and target’ Wikipedia editors

The conservative think tank told prospective donors that the project was part of its work to combat antisemitism.

@dangillmor oh they understand..isn't that why they're all kissing the ring...
@dangillmor
There is widespread lack of understanding that "to fight antisemitism" is not the goal. Rather, that is a convenient and popular campaign heading / umbrella under which many will rally. The problem is that so many who spearhead these campaigns are quick to parrot misinformation from some pretty awful antisemites — cf. Elise Stefanik, slayer of Ivy League presidents and champion of Great Replacement Theory.

It is a frighteningly successful use of disinformation that ironically has a deep vein of antisemitism buried within.

OTOH, the ADL may be imperfect but they remain committed to higher, more rigorous standards: https://forward.com/news/686254/everyone-has-a-plan-to-fight-antisemitism-few-have-studied-what-actually-works/

Everyone has a plan to fight antisemitism. Few have studied what actually works.

Sorry for what may seem like a stray turn but in the end I think it is not just Big Journalism that does not realize what is at stake. There are many who should be concerned but who have been misinformed.
@dangillmor Makes me all the more determined to keep donating money to Wikipedia.

@dangillmor
I am obviously out of my depth as I try to dive into your link and its meaning.

I simply did not get that right-wingnuts are inherently against basic facts and want to stifle peer reviewed documentation of factual events. I must protest that even the most craven of my fellow travelers on this path are not true evil!

I must have fallen asleep and awakened in the uppi-down where good people bare fangs and snarl at the truth because...someone on TV said so? I think better of others.

@dangillmor but no, they're for "free speech"

(They didn't write about their freedom being restricted on Wikipedia? And now they're gonna mess with the people who edit it.)

@dangillmor I'm right here.

Come at me, bro.

@dangillmor Wikipedia doesn’t allow edits from behind VPNs, even for logged-in users, which puts editors at heightened risk.
@dangillmor I’m beginning to understand Big media as fascism. Precisely as Mussolini described it.
@dangillmor A good time to start a small monthly donation to Wikipedia, if you haven't already.
@dangillmor
And these #HeritageFoundation flunkies will be the first ones whimpering when they get doxxed in turn.
@dangillmor The right is always trumpeting “Freedom of Speech” yet the true goal is “Freedom to Deceive”
