My current theory on brain fog is that COVID is punching a hole in the BBB and that means all kinds material that is normal for you body but bad for your brain get in to it.

Then over a couple of months it starts to heal, until you get infected again.

I don't think this is the ONLY cause of it, but I am led to believe it is a major driver.

Your BBB is like a filter that keeps all the stuff in your blood that doesn't belong in your brain out... 1/2

And if that filter gets disrupted then tons of bad, but normally in your blood, materials enter your brain and muck it up.

Then it slowly gets better and more clear until a new hole gets punched in it with your next infection...

But persistent virus would continuously have that effect.

It's a working theory... 2/2

A second pathway into cells for SARS-CoV-2: New understanding of the neuropilin-1 protein could speed vaccine research

Scientists in the UK and Germany discovered a new doorway that the COVID-19 virus uses to infect human cells. This reveals new therapeutic possibilities for blocking the virus.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Which would also help it punch a hole in the BBB which has limited ACE2

SARS-2 virus can spread in patient directly from nerve ends in smelling 👃 & tasting 👄 organs to smelling & tasting centre 🧠. This evades systemic immunity & circumvents use of ACE2.
Fits with its mechanism & specific loss of smell / taste in patients.

Coronaviruses can access the brain using
several different mechanisms that most
viruses cannot
A: Viral infection of peripheral nerves (like
olfactory bulb)
B: Damage of infected endothelial cells
C: Hijacking immune cells
D: Viral opening of tight junction
