Who else remembers what sludge used to sound like?
@calaverasgrande I used to get confused when all the “post-metal” bands started getting called sludge, I guess at some point of the mid 00’s the shift of what everyone considered sludge happened like what happened with “metalcore” lol
@unrefinedjagoff saw this explained somewhere that its all Neurosis fault. Someone called them sludge. Then through them thecterm got applied to post hc bands that werent even slow.
And like, Neurosis is only sludgey on a couple parts of a few songs. They are mostly uptempo?
@calaverasgrande maybe it’s just because people figured they were a punk band that started playing heavier sounding stuff and people are dumb? I really don’t know either lol I just feel like if it isn’t basically like filthier uglier bluesy doomy sabbath hardcore then it doesn’t sound like sludge to me lol
I still wish Floor hadn’t cleaned up their sound and started clean singing lol their demos were so much better
