Sitara’s warning the other night is confirmed- coyotes are on the hunt in the neighbourhood. They passed right by the house but unfortunately I didn’t have my camera until they were a ways away. #Coyote
@Satori we have coyotes here too! I live on the ground floor and occasionally they come up to my window. I thump and will mark my territory when that happens
@Satori Wow. Brave Sitara! A couple summers ago at the cottage, I was taking the backroads into town when a coyote dashed/leapt right in front of me. So fast, much faster than my braking reaction. He made it, but I was a quivering wreck.
@Byronrabbit Incredible! Closest I’ve been is about 20 feet, but that’s close enough. In winter they are so bushy! I’m struck by how large they are in winter. This one was about 20 feet away in the parking lot by work, then they ran across a road and squeezed through a fence.

Extremely cool video!

When I lived in Saskatoon, I had a tiny little house in one of the original residential parts of the city, which was down in the river valley itself. We were about a ten-block walk to the river (South Saskatchewan).

One winter morning as I was heading off to work, I went out my front door and into the street to get into my car, and spotted a dog coming right down the middle of the street at me, about a half-block away. I stood and watched as it got closer, and realized it was a coyote. It must have come into the city via the river and its green margins, and then into my neighbourhood. It went right by me, not a care in the world.

One of my neighbours up the street was a newcomer to Canada. As it got close to his property, I heard him call out "Oh, here doggie!" or something like that. I yelled at him that it wasn't a dog and he shouldn't try to pet it...

@cazabon @Byronrabbit 🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏 What a fantastic memory!

( We ❤️ Saskatoon! I see strategic planning jobs come up once in a while at the U of S and think- hmmmm.)

@Satori @Byronrabbit

The U of S is reputedly a pretty good employer, FWIW. I know people that went to work for them and never left, which says something.

The climate in Saskatoon is a little nicer than Edmonton, too ❄️ 🧊 🌬️ 🥶

😉

@cazabon @Satori When I was on the job market many years ago, there was an opening in my field at U of S. Didn't even consider it. Now, Saskatoon is on my travel list; I've heard so many good things about it.

@Byronrabbit @Satori

It's a beautiful city. If my partner's job had not brought us to Regina, I never would have moved back here.

@cazabon @Satori Oh gosh, that's close. Good thing you warned your new neighbor. Probably not on the official list of things-to-know-when-immigrating-to-Canada.
@Satori So confident, just loping along in a concrete world.
