Firaxis—the studio behind the Civilization series—is hiring a historian. An *actual* historian. And note, when they ask for "4+ years as a Writer, Narrative Designer, or other position with commensurate duties," that includes teaching, writing, and research—i.e. your Ph.D. in History.

Historian

Sparks Glencoe, Maryland, United States

@samplereality I sent the link to a gamer friend with a Phd in history and his reply was "dream job!".
@samplereality Interesting. A few years ago when I tried to connect a historian PhD friend of mine to another gaming company they "were not yet ready" for something like that. "Go Firaxis!" I say; not knowing anything about them as an employer of course; maybe they are terrible.
@samplereality i am still hoping for a good official #AlphaCentauri Sequel
@langhaarschneider @samplereality Agreed. But that's maybe not what you would hire a historian for?
@cd_home @samplereality maybe an historian May know much from the past that he might Develop also a good Storyline for the Future?
But yes, maybe this is only hope and not very likely.
@samplereality @tango If you aren’t familiar with Maryland, this is north of Baltimore on the I-83 corridor.
@samplereality So they are on the verge of releasing Civilization VII and only now thought "Maybe we should have had a historian working on this"?
@samplereality The more surprising thing there is the implication that they haven't already had one for a long time, which I would have considered a given. The makers of "EVE Online" hired an economist almost 20 years ago to help keep the ingame economy sound.
@samplereality You mean so far they've never hired nor consulted actual experts for their historical games?

@samplereality

Does the hiring process involve a Civ tournament among candidates?
