“Once the tipping point reaches majority female- the men flee.” https://celestemdavis.substack.com/p/why-boys-dont-go-to-college
Why aren't we talking about the real reason male college enrollment is dropping?

We would rather talk about literally everything else.

Matriarchal Blessing
@laescude The comments on that article clearly show that it is spot on. Fragile masculinity and misogyny on full display.
@Thorium I thought the same. It’s also why there’s so much “push back” against DEI in computer science, because it means more competition and devaluing the profession. It’s sad and infuriating, and I already lived through it in Architecture. Everyone loves Mies Van der Rohe as long as it’s not your aunt who can aspire to design buildings.
@laescude I am a man, but I simply cannot comprehend this. It must be related to all prejudices, the desire to feel superior to others. That women might prove otherwise makes many men flee. What a pity that so many are stuck with that mindset.
@laescude What. The. Hell. I'm having trouble getting my head around this at all. I was in college in the 90s, during the era when enrollment was around 50/50, and I *loved* it. Yes, there were gender differences, but they were just another topic to discuss and think about. I loved being in classes with both women and men, and I love working in a mixed environment now. The period when boys are becoming men is the best opportunity to learn about gender equality.

@timesandseasons

As the ancients told us:
Girls go to college to get more knowledge.
Boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider.

@laescude Interesting. What on earth does "redshirting" mean? I assume its not so they are the first to get shot like in Star Trek?
@chewie @laescude It's from American college sports; I'm most familiar with it from football. A player has four years of eligibility, but if they're declared "redshirt" their first year, they can practice with the team, but not play. That lets them focus on academics their first year, while they're still physically developing and training. Their final year, when they're at their peak, will come after they've graduated. So the idea is to let boys have an extra year to mature before college.
@bmac @chewie Thanks, I didn’t know that.
