Today in 1983, 42 years ago: History of the Internet: ARPANET abandons the NCP protocol and adopts TCP/IP.

#OnThisDay

@onthisday I thought it was Network Control Protocol NCP.

Is my memory failing me?

@onthisday Started to abandon. Most of the hundred or so machines cut over immediately but we didn’t shut the last NCP/TCP gateway down until late in the year. (September IIRC)
@MartyFouts @onthisday There were also several planned NCP outages during 1982, to test and encourage quick adoption of TCP/IP before the final cutoff.
