Pidgin 3.0 Experimental 1 Has been released!

We are ecstatic to announce that we have released the first experimental version of Pidgin 3.0!!! This is a pre alpha release with an official version number of 2.90.0. We will continue releasing in this fashion until we are ready for 3.0.0 which will be the release we consider ready for end users. The release can be found on SourceForge. Update: Well it wouldn’t be the first release in a long time without a nearly immediate update… It turns out that we missed some bugs that affected new user...

@pidgin never thought i'd see a libadwaita based app with a source download on SOURCEFORGE 0.o
@valpackett @pidgin Yeah. It would be nice to see this amazing project moving away from this piece of crap.
@lig @valpackett Suggestions on file hosting that isn't github/gitlab as we don't use git? Our initial plan was to use bintray, but the fell apart when they shutdown...
@pidgin @valpackett do use git
@lig @valpackett no. We have been using #mercurial for nearly 15 years and have no desire to change. https://mercurial-scm.org/
Mercurial SCM

@pidgin that's sad and a huge blocker for growing contributor base and a narrowing factor for tools available.
For contributors it's a sign of the project being outdated.
@lig care to back this up with some actual numbers?

@lig more importantly, why do you think that all of these magical contributors are unable to use something like git-remote-hg?

You clearly believe that they would be able to completely understand everything about our code base and be able to just swoop in an save the day, but yet they either don't know about git-remote-hg or can't be bothered to set it up.

At any rate, maybe you should just stop talking about things you don't know about and let people use the tools like like.

@pidgin do whatever suits you best guys and keep up the good work!
My opinion is still just my opinion 🤷‍♂️
I'm at no place to teach anything the team of most popular instant messaging app in the world...
@pidgin btw, insulting me hiding behind the project account is another professional and community oriented thing to do 🤷‍♂️
@lig @pidgin hah, I debated using my personal account but fixed it made more sense to stay with the brand account. You have the audacity to think you know what's best for a project that I personally have 21 years of my life in and then get upset when we fall you on it... I guess I shouldn't be surprised.. 🤷
@lig @pidgin also if you knew thing 1 about me or the project you'd already know how much we despise #git and that I personally even built a new #mercurial hosting tool when bitbucket dropped mercurial support... https://keep.imfreedom.org/grim/hgkeeper but yeah please tell me about lack of tools... 🙄
Making sure you're not a bot!

@pidgin Unfortunately, just the name of this software triggers memories of my time as an Oracle employee.
@mgrinder I assure you it triggers many memories of Oracle employees who would join our IRC channel for support and insist that we help them when we told them they had to talk to their own help desk and that we couldn't do anything for them.... 😅
