wow, they must be making some real fast children here in Glasgow
@Ninji adult running speed is ~6MPH, but children are persistence hunters. You may be able to outrun them for a while, but they won't stop and they hunt in packs.
@Ninji it's that sugar rush

@Ninji what they do in my corner of glasgow is throw the rulebook out the window and erect roadsigns based on vibes

there's a bridge not far from us that has a 4.2m maximum _width_ warning, and a moderately sized roundabout that's marked with the "keep left" signs intended for traffic islands

@jackeric lmao what the hell, i’ll have to keep an eye out for this

i didn’t even realise there was a difference in “keep left” signs

@Ninji here's an example of a correctly marked roundabout. the give way line is a single dashed line, the roundabout island has an arrow facing left (meaning "you must turn left here") and the traffic island on the side has a bollard with the arrow facing down and left (meaning "you must pass on the left side of this")

meanwhile in Battlefield there's a roundabout where the island is marked with Keep Left bollards

finally another very plain and correctly marked roundabout

@jackeric oh what the hell haha

no wonder i’d never noticed — i used to cycle by battlefield regularly but i’d just go past battlefield rest as i didn’t want to climb up the hill

that is *cooked*

@jackeric @Ninji I find the mandatory-left markings confusing on those mini roundabouts! I’d interpret that as having to take the first exit. We use a different sign in the Netherlands. Much clearer (though I wouldn’t advise using this particular one in the UK).
@ArtHarg @Ninji oh we have those on our actual mini-roundabouts. The examples I just shared all have a substantial central island of some kind so qualify as normal roundabouts!
@ArtHarg @Ninji the most egregious road sign blunder I've seen, which nearly caused me a head-on collision, was where they built a chicane and, instead of putting the blue rectangular "you have priority" sign on one side and the red-bordered circular "oncoming vehicles have priority" on the other, they used the blue rectangular sign in both directions but mounted one of them upside down
@Ninji where we live we’ll see “SLOW CHILDREN CROSSING” signs.
@Ninji We only have slow children in US.

@Ninji

Children on bicycles can be even faster, I've heard.

@Ninji that's not that fast for a kid
@Ninji I go by a sign to work that is outside a childcare center, and I have been meaning to make a post about how it’s kind of rude that they’re talking about their slow children
