In 2024, the policy team at IFF participated in 9 consultations, sent 85 letters, authored several statements and public briefs, organised several briefing calls and events, launched new projects and expanded existing ones, and continued tracking digital rights developments in the Parliament.

First off, the numbers. This year, the policy vertical wrote 85 letters, filed 150 RTIs, joined 9 consultations with the govt & international bodies, & published 10 explainers to make sense of complicated policies.

Remember the elections this year? Authorities wanted to use drones & facial recognition tech at polling stations. We pushed back with letters, campaigns, & a lot of noise—and guess what?

They scrapped the plan! 3/10

Then there was the Broadcasting Bill, 2024. This would’ve hurt free speech & creativity big time. Through #LetUsChill, thousands of you joined us in raising your voices & together, we got the govt. to withdraw the bill. Massive W! 4/10
