Single player FPS auggestions - Lemmy

Can you give auggeations to try for preferably indie single player campaign FPS that does hace creatures or aliens, or takes place in space?l. I’m not into the Doom games because of the martian creatures, or Halo games due to seeimnfly a space theme. I tried Half Life 2 since people demand a Half Life 3, and after 45 minutes I lost all interest in Half Life. Is there an indie version of Medal Of Honor? I do not play online multiplayer at all, and no third person games of any kind.

The Outer Worlds

EDIT: Did you mean you DON’T want it to be space themed?

Yeah, no space things.

Unreal and Unreal Tournament (the latter only has single player with bots) got officially free the other day. You can get them at oldunreal.com.

No One Lives Forever has been abandoned for a while. You can get them at nolfrevival.tk.

OldUnreal, purely devoted to the old Unreal (Tournament) versions

Maybe the titanfall 2 campaign?
What stands out so much about Titanfall 2?
It’s a fun movement shooter, cheap, and quite good.

The campaign is short and sweet, never gets stale. The gameplay and gunplay are solid, the AI are decent.

You can regularly pick it up for like 5 dollars or less.

Arguably the best single player fps campaign ever. Never overstays it’s welcome and each level is unique. The movement is also fantastic.
My favorite game of 2024: Selaco
Save 30% on Selaco on Steam

Selaco is a brand new original shooter inspired by classics, featuring thrilling action set pieces, destructibility, smart enemies and a fleshed out story taking place within an immersive game world.

I meant no space things.
In that situation, Fallen Aces.
Steamで25% OFF:Fallen Aces

The A.C.E.S. Once the watchful guardians of Switchblade City - are being taken down, one by one. Now it's up to one man, with two fists, to get to the bottom of it all. Fallen Aces is a crime noir FPS that plays right out of the '90s and looks like it's right outta the comics.

Fallen Aces is a cartoon or comic style game? I’ve never heard of it before?
A kind of brawl-based FPS (with some limited gunplay, ammo is really scarce) with a kind of old detective vibe mixed with an underground superhero group. It’s replayable in a way where you can try a more sneaky approach to minimize combat or punch your way through.
After watching videos of gameplay, the graphics for Acea would be a point of disconnect for me.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger

Far Cry series

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Far Cry 2 through 4 specifically are the best of the series.
Sniper: elite looks good on that list
I’ve always had a fondness for the original Call of Duty single-player campaign. I don’t even care for that series, but the original had a phenomenal campaign.
Call Of Duty 2 was by far the best. I want Call Of Duty 3 on PC.
All of the Metro games!
No creatures, says OP. Metro got creatures.
Ah beans. I didnt read well enough
I Am Your Beast single player FPS not in space and looks pretty cool.
I Am Your Beast on Steam

Hunt the military-industrial complex across stylish comic book micro-sandboxes in this fast-paced covert revenge thriller FPS from the developers of El Paso, Elsewhere.

That looks like another cartoon or comic book game.
Then allow le one suggestion : children of the sun it’s a stretch from the fps guidelibes as you mainly control de bullet. Add in some stealth and odd elements and you have something might be worth a try. And it’s on sale at the moment. The graphical style is something that you either like or don’t. Could make or break the game for some
Steamで60% OFF:Children of the Sun

激しい怒りを一発の銃弾に込め、弾道を辿って次々に敵を倒していくパズルシューターゲーム。闇をかき分け、凶悪なカルト教団を追う少女——人生を破滅に導いた者たちへの復讐劇がここに始まる。

I’m going to skip on that game as well
Dishonored
Not sure if it counts as FPS but if it does I second Dishonored. The second game has the best level design of any game I played and it’s not even close

Someone has already mentioned DeusEx - Dishonored games also fit the category. If you are into grounded wilderness survival experiences, I recommend The Long Dark. If you are into SciFi and just don’t like space as a setting, try Metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. None of these are indies though.

Modern reboot of Wolfenstein (The New Order, Old Blood and The New Colossus) are also quite fun and brilliant - they do occasionally send you to space though (there are levels on the Moon and Venus). The recent Indiana Jones game from the same studio (Machine Games) is really good as well.

Steamで50% OFF:Anger Foot

『Anger Foot』は、ケツを蹴り上げることが何よりも最高とされる超ハイスピードなアクションFPSだ。

From video clips I can’t it seriously. Did the team make Angry Foot as a parody? It borders on humourous or comical.

why would you even attempt the take a game called “ANGER FOOT” seriously? yes it’s humorous, is that a problem?

you wanted recommendations, we’ve given you recommendations.

  • Metro series (very good, contains creaures/mutants but also a lot of enemies are human)
  • STALKER series (very good, contains creaures/mutants but also a lot of enemies are human), some mods recommended because the base games are a bit “unfinished” for lack of a better word, but the modding scene is great and always kind of saves the games
  • Deus Ex series (I’ve played 1, Human Revolution + Mankind Divided, all very good)
  • Wolfenstein series (the newer titles are very good in general, except Youngblood)
  • Dishonored series (very good)
  • Sniper Elite series (I’ve played 2-4, they were very decent)
  • Far Cry series (I’ve played 1, 3-5 + New Dawn, they were very decent)
  • Deathloop (interesting conceptually but also not amazing)
  • F.EA.R. series (great horror/scifi themed FPS)
  • DUSK, Ion Fury, … (and in general lots of other boomer shooters, lots of them are great, these are just 2 examples which I fondly remember. Lots of high quality indie games in this category)
  • Cyberpunk 2077 (as an FPS-RPG hybrid, very good since version 2.x, especially with Phantom Liberty)
  • RAGE 1+2 (don’t remember much from 1 anymore, but I finished it so it was at least okay. 2 was short and unimpressive but still works as well, it’s nothing impressive but if you just want a sci-fi singleplayer shooter they’re alright I guess, and they’re probably very cheap these days)
  • The Division 1/2 also work decently in single-player, although some late-endgame stuff like Raids requires multiplayer. Might not count as FPS since it’s 3rd person by default, but it plays very close to FPS and IIRC you can change camera view to 1st person and when you aim from cover (which is most of the time) it feels like FPS regardless. I played both for a bit and it was better than expected but it’s also bland and gets boring after a while. Still a somewhat decent “realism”-based shooter
  • Theoretically Call of Duty but I’m still not going to recommend them because of unethical developer, low value in general, inflated prices in general, short lengths in general, and so on
That’s a solid list
Check out CULTIC on steam. Very grounded and very fun
I watched a couple videos of Cultic and I’m going to pass on it.
Have you played the campaigns for older Call of Duty games and the like? They still hold up.
I have the Call Of Duty from 15 years ago. I don’t find the original Modern Warfare series to be as good as people make them out to be. Call Of Duty 2 is my favoirite compaign of the series. I wish they would do a scene for scene remake with the new engine since it was made in the time of CRT 4:3 and sell the remake for $20.

Right now I’m enjoying Witchfire. Although it’s not just FPS, the FPS part is good, along with the atmosphere of medieval-inquisition times and a powerful witch yet to be faced.

Gameplay consists of sessions on several islands where you kill enemies, clear up events and gradually unlock new game parts. On successful extraction you bring back witchfire (the same thing as souls in Dark Souls) to spend on increasing of one of six characteristics.

There are a bunch of weapons unlocked through research and each upgradable up to 3 tiers, by completing requirement tied to each gun.

It is fun and keeps me engaged for several days already. But if you’re not into repeating runs and rather play story based FPS, or don’t really like the theme, maybe it’s better to pick something else.

The Wolfenstein series isn’t indie, but meets your asks. It’s an alt history FPS based in WWII, so most creaturish you’ll get is dogs.

Outside of that fallout and borderlands weren’t mentioned yet, but both have rpg elements and creatures. Fallout is alt history USA while borderlands takes place on another planet.

I bought the Wolfenstein combo New Order/Old Blood from GOG. I tried Fallout 4 and I get bored of open world exploration, I find it’s only for filling time for something to do as opposed to affecting the storyline of a game in any way, and I can’t seem to get into RPG’s all at but it’s not a criticism of RPGs.

I got a couple of Borderland games from Epic giveaway and they’re quite nice but I seem to lose interest after an hour. Great production on the Borderlands games but I’m not feeling them. I hear the movie is awful.

Yeah I threw out borderlands and fallout just cause most people don’t think of them as FPS so i thought it’s possible you haven’t run into them.

The issue is once you remove scifi/creatures from an FPS, all you’re really left with is humans, resulting in everything being mostly military/war.

One other game I thought of that’s an FPS but a bit out there is Neon White

If you’re willing to look at older games then it does open up a bit too.

Steamで60% OFF:Neon White

「Neon White」は真珠のような天国の門を越えた先を舞台にした、ハイペースな一人称視点のアクションプラットフォーマー。

Full scale warfare games is what I am best at playing. That’s why I never ever logon to online multiplayer, because the bulk of people have no understanding of strategic positioning and outline plays of who does what in a specific situation.

Essentially, it seems online players don’t understand losing a battle to win the war. For example, if an enemy is in your sights, check if it’s better to let them pass unharmed so your position is not compromised by a third person seeing where that shot came from if not fully covered.

If that’s the kind of game you like, then I feel like online is the only kind that does it justice. Games like “Squad” or “Arma” try for that level of strategy and realism.

For online, no, I don’t find people as a collective whole are well versed enough in miltary strategies ti fully utilize online gameplay for what it could be. I don’t play games so I can win and beat everybody, I play games for entertainment to enjoy some relaxation time.

I get the impression that there ar people online who truly believe that if they win in something like deathmatch that they are better person then everybody else. That strikes me as a hollow empty existance to any sense of validity from playing video games. I do know that 100% of game cbeaters and hackers are miserable losers who have nothing going for them outside in the real world so that cheat at video games on the internet to win to try to feel like they’re not a total waste of empty space.

I tried Arma 3 compaign, the graphics wrecked for me and the horrible attempt at voice acting.

You should try Quake, it’s super indie dawg
You did not read my full post so I’m rejecting your suggestion.

I did, but I chose to ignore it because people online only post about what they want; and I’m trying to learn how to be people.

Have you tried Tony Hank Pro Skater?

I don’t fully grasp what you’re saying about you chose to ignire what I said but you trying to learn how to be people? There seems to be a contradiction in your statement. For example you say that you read everything I said, and chose to ignore what I said and recommend the very thing that I never touch. I’m not arguing, I’m trying to point out, that without further explanation, your statements don’t seem to line up.

I think I can fully support you in regards to “learning how to be people”, it’s only the cross communication that I’m singling out.

Indie huh ? Try Dusk
I don’t enjoy playijg anything that has 30 year old graphics.
It simply has a retro-aesthetic & that sounds like a You Issue
Fallen Aces and Sulfur, two very recent indie fps games l, both amazing. Neither are “just shoot” games though, but I’d recommend giving a look
Someone else suggested Fallen Aces and I told them that it looks like a cartoon or.comic book game so I wilk skip it. I see that Sulfur looks similar so I’m going to pass on that as well.
From your comments, what’re you’re looking for seems to be extremely restricted. Give them a try, you might surprise yourself. Indie fps games with modern realistic graphics are really hard to come by, as there’s basically no reason for indie devs to venture into a genre completely taken by AAA devs. Going back to the topic though, I’d take a look into Road to Vostok if you haven’t yet, it’s the closest to what you want (from what I can tell).
