As much as it feels too late or like an inevitable disappointment at this point, I think Valve should still make Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

It feels like it besmirches the whole franchise to have the closest canonical ending to the story be a deleted blog post with all the names changed.

A series of great games forming a brilliant and immersive story, where the final payoff is only available via YouTube video essay.

@beeps there is a ton of evidence out there in the last year that valve is actively working on the continuation to episode 2 as we speak, i have more hope now than I ever had in the past that we will be seeing it in the next 2 to 3 years.

@beeps tbh i can't agree. HL2's story is really flawed. it feels like they wrote it to show off technology rather than to develop technology for a story they wanted to tell.

the result is watching generic placeholder black mesa scientist and generic placeholder black mesa guard make facial expressions and body language at each other, but gordon never goes "uhh excuse me what the fuck is going on?" he just waits in the room until the NPCs let him do more gameplay. That's HL2 storytelling.

@beeps I do like the worldbuilding they did though, the setting. But I can see that done a hundred times better in HL Alyx and never once have to be annoyed by the HL1 scientist nerd. Russel is an actual person
@beeps (to be clear, I hate HL2 because I love HL2)
