@thoughtpunks I wish that the 3.x magic item crafting system was reworked to be more balanced instead of just... thrown away. The ability to basically create your own magic item instead of being forced to replicate existing ones was a solid, inspiring idea, and the basic categories of "things that cast spells", "things with lots of mix-and-match abilities to pile on", and "things where the prerequisites are just to get in the general neighborhood" are a good starting point.

I feel vaguely similarly about the 3.x D&D variant magic Incantations rules.

Sometimes I long for a system of rules that covers everything from researching a new spell to creating magic items under a single unified system.

But time I attempt to cobble one together it ends up getting impractically complicated.
