A few weeks ago I posted about our annual donation to our local queer and trans youth shelter, the Zebra Coalition.
Thanks to donations here, from friends, and personal, we were able to make gift bags of snacks, toiletries, and about $100 of gift cards for all residents again this year!

The one issue with this picture is that it does not capture the size of these birds. People from Florida do not know how large these random wild birds can get, and I think outside of emus and ostriches, these are the largest birds I have ever seen, let alone had walked up to me and start inspecting me for food

@Raccoon when I was younger my mother used to feed some near her house. Then they started banging on the sliding glass door when they were hungry
For whatever reason, the area that I live is very devoid of sandhill cranes, yet I can go a few miles in any direction to see them, but it's still a delight to see

I never saw them when I was in the southern parts of Florida, far south of Tampa, Orlando, and Cocoa Beach. Now I see them all the time in the Tampa and Orlando areas, which makes me think they prefer the higher elevation and inland areas.

@david Ahhhh, Sandhill cranes~ I adore these birds, but they definitely have an attitude.
I can't think of another species of bird that'll sit in the middle of the road and glare at you like you're the asshole getting in their way.
Also learned not to feed them, because they'll regularly come back every day, screeching for more food like an impatient toddler.
