@NaraMoore what did i just watch @.@

@bookstardust

Serious Black Metal
Sorry should have tagged that. I meant to.

@NaraMoore i listen to visual kei, blood is my daily buisness, don't worry 😂 but somehow that came out of nowhere.
I love japan for being basically the only country who would do anything like this

@bookstardust

The Japanese don't have a corner on the market. I've seen some pretty blood thirsty JPop. There is old school Swedish Black Metal. German Goth and Darkwave forexample (Again Gore CW)

Blutengel - Wir Sind Das Licht (Official Music Video)

@NaraMoore yeaaah, but that's because of the existence of Visual Kei. They all group under that label, but all make different styles of music. They define themselves through clothing not through the music genre.
Anything dark, death, gothic and industrial is visual kei.

@bookstardust

Interesting take.

I was a gearhead for a long time and I don't think I ever looked at how they dressed. I also think I have a much more narrow definition of Visual Kei than you. While Goth, Gothmetal, Darkwave have distinctive dress that doesn't make them Visual Kei.

If I understand you then even that video would be Visual Kei, Hima has a definate style of Black Metal dress and Black Metal makeup.

You might have to define what you mean by Visual Kei. Because if it just distinctive dress then 90% of idol is Visual Kei. Even Punk non-dress is a visual style.

@NaraMoore no, what i meant was, that the music scene developed differently. So you cannot take a genre definition and hope the same exists in Japan. The band you shared is definitly an idol group. They are casted and produced by a label and not visual kei. Normally for vkei the band forms and then gets a label. Because Japan is japan it's very gender divided and there are few female visual kei artists (hence we have babymetal and nemophilia who are produced to fill a gap)

@bookstardust

I will admit I am not very familar with vkei. I mainly focus on alt. chika idols.

@NaraMoore which is totally fine, you do you. But if you ever wondered, why you did have a hard time findinf certain genres, this might have been the reason.
i for example do not listen to a lot of bands because i prefer a certain music style
(Even if i try to post various bands)

The first one you listed had good energy. Most of the rest were too polished or had a flavor of a time I have moved past. I may explore some more from your search thing.

Sometimes the idols I watch fit Western catagories often not. They are their own thing. Idol is Idol and fills it own nich. There is a unquie energy to chika idols. The music is the hook, but it's their personality that keeps you entralled.

@NaraMoore
And here are some examples: this is mazari a new idop group who makes vkei music but is not part of the scene
https://youtu.be/z7iHDzkQ_q0

This is Malice Mizer and they basically defined "gothrock" in Japan in the 90's. It's the closest to our goth music
https://youtu.be/Zwn0MefXCK8
hence why this kind of music is included in vkei

Schwarz Stein (also a Mana band) https://youtu.be/x1wwAXOWlgs

@NaraMoore This is an interesting one: did 10 years of vkei and now changed and got out of the scene

Velvet Eden

And here is the contrast: all of the above is vkei
But this is vkei, too: https://youtu.be/clGUThGRVWc

It's about the clothes, styles, band history etc, but not about the music.
