Seems automatic silence removers have become really prevalent in #podcasting. It really stresses me the fuck out and my immediate reaction when I hear it is that I want to turn the damn thing off.

A lot of people seem to think that podcasting needs to adhere to the rules of radio by which dead air was the cardinal sin. Of course this is a basic misunderstanding of the reasons behind those norms. Radio needed to keep people from switching channels. People don't "surf the dial" on podcasts, they've made the decision to listen.
Good point. Retention isn’t “a problem that needs to be solved”. Also, I think it’s a YouTube jump-cut aesthetics thing.
