The FrogSane washing would be like: President Trump mentions both Italy and the United States share common republican ideals which date back to ancient Rome.

There's no doubt he is really stupid.
But the media love to do "sane washing" and paraphrase what he says into something less unhinged. It's fairly easy since there so little meaning in his words that anyone can see anything they want!
