How were you introduced to your favorite band/artist?
@brad_frost Old school radio and via 'pirated' BBC radio 1 essential mixes
@brad_frost Friend gave me the latest album of theirs (on cassette) for my 11th birthday.
@brad_frost My wife. Anything that I like that is _actually_ good was recommended by her!
@brad_frost BMG Music Club, hahaha.

@brad_frost I was in a recording studio with my band in 2004. The sound engineer told us that one of our singers sounded like Tom Waits in one song (not Waits’ rough voice, but his earlier style).

He and one of the guitarists introduced me to Swordfishtrombone and Used Songs (collection of Tom Waits songs over the early years) and let me borrow the CDs. From there I bought new albums as they came out and worked my way through all of the older albums as I found them in the store.

@brad_frost Weird one for me. The public library! I lived across the street from a public library 30 years ago and they had a section with CDs.

@brad_frost My high school art teacher recommended me for a national apprenticeship program. I was younger than most applicants, but I ended up being accepted. I spent a couple of weeks living in off-campus dorms and attending workshops at Art Center.

The older students showed me a ton of music. At one point Gorillaz’ “Clint Eastwood” came on the radio, I mentioned that I liked it, so one of them played me Blur. đŸ€Ż

@brad_frost I love reading all the replies! 😆 I actually can‘t say really. Well first, who my favourite artist is and then how I got to them. Usually mostly to falling in love with a specific song of them and diving deeper into their music because of that.
@brad_frost Was listening to Temple jazz station in Philadelphia. A local band was playing in studio. They sounded interesting. I could not figure out how to spell the band’s name for the life of me, but remembered the DJ comparing them to John Zorn. I could spell that! 25 years later: very happy I could spell “Zorn”. Rearranged my head and opened my ears to so much music.
@brad_frost lollapalooza 2009 sampler cd that friend brought back
