This is the final evening in my fifth year of observing the revised, or reinvented, season called Sunwait (Väntljusstaken). In the six Thursdays prior to winter solstice, today is the sixth of Sunwait 2024 (and Mother's Night!). Of course, the specific days are fluid. 🕯️

The practice: Light one candle each week until the solstice for a total of six candles. They are based on the first six letters of the Futhark: F (Fehu), U (Uruz), TH (Thurisaz), A (Ansuz), R (Raidho), K (Kenaz). On solstice night, you can light them all again and let them burn down to complete the working if they haven't already been burned down completely (do not let candles burn unattended). 🕯️
