Oh god I just did the math

At full power that server will use almost $200 a month of electricity

Nope nope nope nope nope

@robdaemon I got rid of my Sun 4/280 for similar reasons. That big honking machine cost me like $150/mo to run.

@petrillic this was prompted by me tripping that breaker three times in the last few days AND it being 85Β°F in that room as a result of running that machine.

It’s a fun, fast toy but that’s just not sustainable.

@robdaemon which model did you end up with?

@petrillic It's a Power System S822 (8242-22A)

I really like it but daaaamn

@robdaemon
For some years I had a DEC KL10 (DECsystem 10, PDP-10) in storage that I wanted to run. Where I am now, that would cost $1000/month for electricity, and probably another $300/month for AC. When I was a well-paid software developer, I could have done it, but didn't have time. Now I have time, but not money, and I no longer have the machine.
Oh well. At least I have a PiDP-10.
@brouhaha @robdaemon oscar v is mvp for sure
@jfaulken @robdaemon Speaking of which, my friend John and I just finished debugging my PiDP-10. Previously I had some strange LED issues, but it's now fully operational.
To facilitate the debugging process, I wrote a program that presents a graphical representation of the console, showing the state of the switches, and allowing individual control over the LEDs. I'll publish that soon.
@brouhaha oh nice! I don't really follow the group, I should.
@robdaemon To be fair, it did say the problem right in the name
@mullr hahahahahahaha you are not wrong about that
@robdaemon Only run it when you have company come over .. πŸ˜„
