I am Mr Doesn’t Do Festive. It just isn’t my thing. At this time of year I quietly acknowledge the solstice and, being in the Northern Hemisphere, the change to lengthening days: something worth celebrating. I have no specific drinks or foods for that.

A dream winter solstice party would be in a clearing deep in the woods. There would be a bonfire, spitroast hog or goat asado, or both, several, & more - a big cook-out. My drinks would be dark rich ales and warmed spiced mead. Ideally there wouldn’t be many people, but then the food kind of calls for a crowd… so I’d be quietly minding the cooking, then lurking on the dark fringes, and content with that.

If I was lucky enough to be back in Australia for a summer solstice then it’d be fishing and an Aussie style barbecue on a remote beach... somewhere distant from conventional civilisation. Fresh caught fish and perhaps other seafood, lamb chops (of course), cold lager, red wine.

Reviewing some other #MakerHour A1 replies here I see I'm not alone in my festive ambivalence 😂
