Idle #writing question: which is more correct, "drunk on pain" or "drunk with pain"? "Drunk from pain" doesn't look right somehow. Anyone? Other thoughts?

"Drunk with power" but "Drunk on whiskey". Why the difference?

I'm in a lot of pain today. Thus the ramble. Thank you for any responses!

Both great answers. Thank you!!

@Lionesslady

Whiskey is something that physically alters your state, therefore you're 'on' it, while power is something that emotionally alters your state, so you're 'with' it?
Now pain is a physical state again, but usually not one you've willingly done to yourself, so you can't be 'on' it.

I would say drunk 'from' pain but you already have one too many choices.

@Lionesslady I'm thinking 'with' though not sure why. I'm a pain sufferer so I am interested in hearing more. Are you describing something you've felt* or is this strictly for a character you are writing?

I fear I can't be much help because I'm currently:
pain-drunk
drunk from pain
drunk with pain
&
drunk on pain

*Yes! You answered this already in your post. That's how pain affects me, while composing my toot -- it required several drafts! -- I lost focus.
