I am trying to convince my spouse that this should be our next car but so far the only point she has conceded is that it's less ugly than a Cybertruck

https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1145183_telo-mt1-electric-truck-price-range

Telo's tiny electric truck brings 260-mile range for $41,520

The Telo MT1 has a similar footprint to a Mini Cooper but a bed longer than that of the Rivian R1T.

Motor Authority
"Look at that pragmatic design! The doors come pre-dented!"
@mattdm Hey, to be fair we moved the dent forward in the latest design to look more like what it is (a vent) šŸ˜‚

@David_TELO

Ooh - are you actually involved in making it?

I think, really, the main visual problem I have is the "face". Weird whisker things instead of eyes, and no smile.

But I have real questions too! How will the canopy cover work? And what about crash safety?

@mattdm "And thanks to a midgate, the MT1 can fit 4-by-8-foot sheets of plywood,". That's better than some current full size pickups.

@Qwijib0

And seriously, there's nothing close to that size and price with a 350 mile range!

@mattdm I'd grab an SUV version. We roadtrip with our dog and it'd be nice for her to have a bit of space (versus my current coupe or my wife's sedan).

@j3rn

In seriousness if they made a compact SUV / hatchback version, that'd be perfect for us.

@mattdm gosh it looks like a toy that kids will never play with because it's so ugly.

How could they achieve this level of futurism?

@mattdm @jalefkowit It would be super cool if the article linked to the manufacturer’s website but apparently they only want to link to themselves.

I hate ā€œjournalistsā€ who hand out homework.

But I’m super interested in the truck, despite the bad journalism. So thank you for sharing. This could be a Kei-truck for the new EV world.

@bplein @jalefkowit

Here's the link

I picked the article because the manufacturer's site is kind of crap about providing an actual specific "what are we actually talking about here?" url.

TELO Trucks | The All-Electric Mini Truck

Say hello to TELO, the all-electric mini truck. Designed from the ground up for efficiency and practicality.

@mattdm @jalefkowit I found it already, but thank you. I’m not trying to shoot the messenger!

I genuinely want these funky manufacturers to survive. Maybe they sell their skateboard for commercial use to subsidize the run at regular road use?

I have a Rivian R1T which is not a very efficient platform but it’s very fun. I’m all for more fun (yet efficient and diverse) options out there

@mattdm **slightly** less ugly. My god.

@gabriel

Shush you are not helping

@mattdm oh is she here?

IT'S BEAUTIFUL AND FOR A FRACTION OF THE PRICE. IT ONLY NEEDS A FEDORA STICKER.

@mattdm My wife is similarly not on the #telo bandwagon. But in fairness, she's backed some much worse choices I've made, so I'm optimistic she'll come around once I roll up in my green one... or maybe orange? Yeah, probably green.
@mattdm
I would drive it if I could install Fedora on it.
@mattdm My partner has been wanting an electric vehicle for our next vehicle. I just texted him a link to this truck and his only response was, "Eww" šŸ˜†
@mattdm hmm, I wonder if it's possible to install a rooftop tent on the bed. And if so, whether they're going to sell or in Europe.
@mattdm this looks to be an incredible vehicle that sadly will never be built.
