this creates a fascinating perverse incentive for me to never post there now, because now I'm curious as to how high my blue sky follower count will artificially inflate itself without me ever posting there or promoting the account in any way at all
Klara in the hidden land@aeva Someone may have added you to a "starter pack"? They're collections of users that one can easily follow all at once, and you don't get any notification that you've been added to one / can't even find out which ones you're in without going to a third-party site that crawls their API.
Obviously this is a perfectly good feature with no problems at all, but, even if it had problems, they wouldn't matter in the face of helping flighty new users build up a busy "following" feed quickly.
