Technically not the truth… The USA was responsible for about 37% of total global spending on military in 2023, and is the largest single spender (in US$ equivalent) globally. However, as a percentage of GDP the USA doesn’t even make the top 15.

Poverty-reduction, environment-restoration, water-health, high-speed trains, global-aid…

I personally think the Pentagon and any agency who regularly works with contractors needs to be forced to pass audits. That way, we can decrease spending without weakening military.
Especially if Trump tries to withdraw from NATO again, we could lose a fourth of our military strength (in the assumption that annual $$$ = strength of military) and still free up none of that budget.
