Annapurna is publishing FARAWAY next year?! Steph Thirion announced it in March 2010, it earned IGF nominations in 2011 and 2012, then quietly disappeared for years with no updates. Originally a mobile game, it looks to be PC-only now. https://youtu.be/5LxbmaXQa-E

11 years ago, @dubbin wrote about it for The New Yorker. I’m still excited to play it! https://www.newyorker.com/tech/annals-of-technology/faraway-the-making-of-a-universe
Faraway: The Making of a Universe

Steph Thirion’s game Faraway contains and delivers upon a promise of escape to an otherworldly, more ordered place.

Steph Thirion previously made the award-winning iPhone game Eliss, and the remake Eliss Infinity, which are sadly no longer playable on any platform. https://youtu.be/VuKGJyJZY7s

@andybaio @dubbin wooaahhhh no way i played this at pax uhhhh forever ago
@andybaio Fun fact: Steph gave a talk at Indiecade in I want to say 2009 or 2010 that changed my life. He showed an example of live creative coding. I think it was in an environment where he was writing in Ruby. He talked about the stance you have to take to explore things with code and it just... stuck with me. It was absolutely key to me taking on creative coding productively (rather than just having a bunch of aborted projects) starting in 2011
@darius @andybaio Holy shit. I played it at the IGF and even got my Faraway T-shirt. I had given up hope of it ever getting released...
@andybaio also, Annapurna still exists as a publisher?
