Oh my GOD This is cool!! The idea to make a zine to communicate math/cs topics is so obvious in hindsight, but so obviously useful!

Do you mind if I steal your idea someday? I would love to eventually have my own students making zines and doing otherwise artistic things to learn to communicate as well.

(also, Ali's art looks amazing, even just from the cover. It's awesome you found somebody so talented)

@hallasurvivor Please steal my idea! I pointed to a couple of possibly-useful resources here: https://decomposition.al/zines/#for-educators-and-researchers

@hallasurvivor Also, I can't take credit for the idea of a math/CS zine -- there are lots of great math/CS zine creators!
@lindsey @hallasurvivor was it you or @chrisamaphone or a secret third person who pioneered the “fund zines with nsf career” chess move?
@simrob @hallasurvivor @chrisamaphone That was me -- although I'm not the first person to use NSF funding for zines (see https://www.epiqc.cs.uchicago.edu/zines)!

@lindsey @simrob @hallasurvivor i got mine in 2019; did i misremember the timeline on those? I had to fight pretty hard for it bc they wanted to cut them from my budget :)

@chrisamaphone @simrob @hallasurvivor Oh, you're right, I forgot, sorry! You beat me to this by a few years, though I think yours was more like "use NSF funds to commission a professional zine creator" whereas mine was more like "use NSF funds to turn students into zine creators".

(Although I did *also* get some funding earmarked specifically for @b0rk for consulting! Which I now need to actually figure out how to pay her!)

@hallasurvivor @lindsey @b0rk @simrob yeah I also need to actually act on spending my funds; all the zine making so far has been rob going rogue and paying for it via Boston public library printer quota 😄
