Hi #Gravelbike folks! Are 45Nrth Ragnarok boots any good? I could use recommendations for good winter cycling shoes for flat pedals, thanks! #cycling #bike
@JF_Sebastian67
It depends on what you call winter. How cold it gets during your rides, and how sensitive your toes are.
If you regularly ride in temps below freezing for more than an hour I'd personally rather consider their Wölvhammer boots.
@horststorkebaum Thanks so much, Horst! I am just outside Philly, in the States. Lowest temps I will ride are usually no worse than like 25F, -4C or so. The Wolvhammer boots might be overkill, they seem pretty serious, thanks!
@JF_Sebastian67 It's hard to estimate how much insulation your feet need as the range of sensitivity is quite big. I'm certainly above average in my toes' sensitivity to cold. At least when compared to men who ride outside all year.
I have older model Ragnaroks, and they are definitely to cold for me below freezing. I combine them then with thick neopren overshoes, and might even use heated socks to keep my toes really toasty.

@JF_Sebastian67 I only use my current Wölvhammers - also an older model - for mountain bike rides at around freezing or below. Those are warm enough without overshoes for me. Unfortunately the current Wölvhammers are much too wide for my slender feet. So I keep my beloved Wölvhammers in good shape and try to not wear them down.

I would definitely recommend 45 NRTH shoes. Over the last 12 years or so I have used several pairs of four different models, and they were all of high quality.

@JF_Sebastian67
I forgot to mention that I always had to size up one size with any 45 NRTH shoe model.
@horststorkebaum Thanks so much, Horst! This is all really great information. I think the Ragnaroks may not be warm enough. I will go to REI, which carry Wolvhammers and I will try on a pair. Thanks!!
