T**** has a named an #antivaxer "#HerdImmunity" advocate to run the NIH. 🤦‍♂️

"HERD IMMUNITY" refers to "enough immune people existing to prevent the spread of a disease." If catching a disease does not give you immunity, PEOPLE MUST BE VACCINATED FOR IT TO WORK!

I CAUGHT #COVID TWICE. Catching it the 1st time didn't give me immunity. 🙄

The very idea that the person leading the NIH might not understand this is horrifying. 😱 #WeAreSoScrewed #DisasterPresidency

'Sheer panic': Infectious disease experts worry over Trump's dangerous public health leader picks

Sheryl Gay Stolberg, health policy correspondent for the New York Times, discusses the public health community's reaction to Donald Trump's appointment of vaccine skeptics and quacks to leadership roles at federal health institutions.

@MugsysRapSheet Herd immunity also occurs when enough people are vaccinated to prevent the spread of certain diseases, usually a very high percentage of people need to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. And for viruses that mutate rapidly, including RNA viruses such as influenza and SARS-CoV-2, people vaccinated for the old virus can still become sick with a new variant, so they need frequently updated vaccines.

Anyway, the point I want to make is the anti-vaxxers never mention that herd immunity has been accomplished for decades through mass vaccination for all of the old childhood diseases that used to kill so many. And thanks to anti-vaxxers, those diseases are killing again. Trump's public health agencies will kill people. As he and they did before, the numbers don't lie.

@Nonya_Bidniss
I think I said that.

As I wrote: "If catching the disease does not give you immunity, people must be vaccinated for it to work." 😐

@MugsysRapSheet Woops, I didn't catch that, sorry. I hate how anti-vaxxers talk about herd immunity as if it requires getting sick.
