@jo_the_hat This is new information for me, but it's sadly not surprising. I will not be putting spare change in their buckets or shopping at their thrift stores (not that I've done either in years)!

Don’t buy into what was said in the toot. Research for yourself. The allegation is 10 years old and is not supported by the evidence.

@DziadekMick @KnittingMittens @jo_the_hat The Vox story in this thread makes a pretty compelling case that they're not allies of the LGBTQ+ community, that they do discriminate. The Salvation Army's rebuttal of these accusations was notably weak, convoluted and somewhat contradictory.

The Salvation Army says it doesn’t discriminate against LGBTQ people. Critics say that’s not true.

The organization does a lot to help underserved people, including members of the LGBTQ community. Still, it has a long history of alleged discrimination.

I wouldn’t consider Salvationists to be allies of the LGBTQ+ community. Their bible -based opposition to same-sex relations and relationships would make this impossible. But that doesn’t mean they discriminate in their services. I don’t accept that 10 year old evidence means they don’t care for the trans community, especially when there are examples of how they do. I believe from what I’ve seen that their charity is all-embracing.

Nope. It's totally possible. They're just bigots. They like the bigoted parts of the Bible and reject the parts that teach humility, empathy and equality. It's a choice.
