this weekends trip to #Reading and back was also a stark reminder of the failures of #neoliberalism - the town (or at least its #car #traffic ) is growing beyond what it can sustain, still quite car-dependent even with alternative transport available, and the #roads are literally falling apart - it seems to be a constant traffic jam, even at weekends (it was bad when I lived there, and has only got worse in the 18 years since Ieft!)

#Reading is also divided in half by the #RiverThames - there are only 3 points to cross it - at #Caversham Bridge, Reading Bridge and just outside in #Sonning - even this afternoon that bridge must have been #flooded , as #Wokingham #Council and #TVP (Thames Valley Police) had closed off the road (adding to the traffic on the remaining two bridge crossings). The Council wants to build a third bridge but surrounding Councils are against it
